Heartbreaking…A War Anniversary

I realized today as I drove home and heard news coverage about the anniversary of the war in Iraq that my daughter has lived her whole life in a country that was in a state of war. It really scared me. Both my nieces have started their lives without their daddy due to the war in Iraq. My daughter has heard NPR news casts about suicide bombs, IEDs, and war victims all her life. Many would think that I should not let her hear such things but it has intruded on her. I have already had to explain where her uncle, my nieces’ daddy is. As much as I would love for my child not to live in a country in a state of war, my heart breaks for mothers in Baghdad, Gaza, Darfur, Burma…How do they protect their children from horrors? My daughter shares a generation with those children. What kind of world are we making for them?

  2. I just found this when I looked under In My Opinion where I had just posted an entry. My son’s best friend, since the third grade, (they are now 21) will be sent to Iraq in August. This war is too close. May Gos help all the children and the Mommies and the Daddies, too.
